Dear Briggs Students and Families,
We are excited to kick off Bullying Prevention Week next week at Briggs School! Our goal is to create a positive and safe environment where all students feel valued and supported. We will be hosting a series of activities designed to educate, empower, and engage students in preventing bullying, with a special focus on cyberbullying.
Throughout the week, students will engage in discussions about bullying prevention during their homeroom classes, learning ways to identify, prevent, and address bullying—both online and offline. We are thrilled to welcome Fabian Ramirez, a renowned speaker known for his impactful talks on anti-bullying and promoting kindness. He will be joining us to inspire our students with his message of resilience, respect, and empathy.
Additionally, our ASB students have been hard at work organizing fun and meaningful activities for the week, including:
Monday- Writing Positive Notes: Students will have the opportunity to send encouraging notes to friends, classmates, and staff members.
Tuesday- Photo Booth Fun: A special photo booth will be set up where students can take pictures with positive messages and spread smiles.
Wednesday- Students will hide mini pumpkins around the campus with positive stickers inside. It’s a fun way to brighten someone’s day with a kind word!
Thursday- Bracelet-Making: Students can create friendship bracelets to remind them of the importance of kindness and inclusion.
Friday- Handprint Wall: At the end of the week, students will add their handprints to a wall that symbolizes our commitment to kindness and standing up against bullying.
Each day next week, we will be sending out a tip through Parent Square to help you support your child in recognizing, preventing, and responding to cyberbullying. These tips will include practical advice on fostering open communication, setting healthy digital boundaries, and encouraging positive online behavior.
We are aware of the inappropriate social media accounts that are putting out negativity and posting pictures and captions without students' consent. As much as we wish we can do more, the school is limited on the actions we can take. This is where we need your help and need to work together as a team. We encourage students to keep their accounts private and report inappropriate accounts to the specific vendors (Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, etc.). We also need to educate students to not give these accounts more attention by taking screenshots and texting to others what is posted. If anyone has credible information they would like to report anonymously, this can be done through the WeTIP link on our website. Together, we can make a difference in creating a bully-free school and community.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to a week full of positivity and learning!
~Ms. Winegar and the entire Briggs School Staff
